SPURS

The club is named after Sir Henry Percy (known as "Harry Hotspur"), a 14th-century knight who owned land in Tottenham. He was famous for his impulsive bravery and for wearing "spurs" to make his horse go faster in battle—a character immortalized in Shakespeare’s Henry IV. The "Spurs" are the literal metal tools on a rider's boot, and the cockerel on their badge is a "fighting cock" fitted with those same sharp spurs.
