Unlike the traditional "villain" (a movie antagonist), this name is a demonym specifically created for the club. It stems from the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel, where the team was founded in 1874. The "Villa" referred to a prominent local house, and the nickname "Villans" was coined as a clever play on words to describe the people associated with it.
