SEAGULLS
This nickname was born out of a direct "terrace war" and a desire for a local identity. For decades, Brighton were known as "The Dolphins," but during a fierce rivalry match in the 1970s, Crystal Palace fans began chanting "Eagles! Eagles!" In a moment of spontaneous defiance, the Brighton fans chanted back "Seagulls! Seagulls!" to represent their seaside home and the birds that dominated their skyline.
