CITIZENS

An extension of the word "City", used to emphasize the club’s deep-rooted connection to the local residents of Manchester. While many clubs have "City" in their title, Manchester City fans adopted "Citizens" (often shortened to "Cityzens") to distinguish themselves from their rivals, Manchester United. It reinforces the claim that they are the true club of the Manchester community—the people who actually live within the city limits.
